Did anyone see the two-part special last week on PBS titled, "The Mormons"?What did you think of it?
I myself found it interesting, insightful, at times one-sided and ultimately very compelling. There were moments that I tried to watch it objectively or without bias (which can be hard to do considering I have been a Mormon my entire life). Mike and I both felt like the second half was better than the first half, probably because it dealt more with current social/religious issues in the church. There were instances when I felt like the filmmakers got it wrong, and other times when it seemed they hit the nail right on the head.
The overall experience, I felt, was very positive.
Some of my favorite highlights from the program were the segments on the church welfare system, missionaries, temple work, family and the testimonies of several members (especially the segment featuring convert Betty Stevenson). It seemed that even those who had either left the church or were ex-communicated still carried feelings of respect and love towards the faith. It helped me to gain a new perspective and love for my religion, and even though I have been a believer all my life I still learned a few things from this interesting program.
Please share any thoughts, feelings, dissenting opinions or highlights that you had after watching, "The Mormons".
