I usually post movie trailers and such on my Cupcake Chowder blog, but this one seemed special enough to get some love and attention on This Girl's Life...
From what I understand, Across the Universe comes from the genius Julie Taymore (who brought The Lion King to Broadway), and features over 30 Beatles songs. In fact, the entire story is set to Beatles lyrics which is reason enough to see the film.
Kiersten brought her copy of the soundtrack over the other night so I could get a sneak peek at what was in store, and I have to say that the 'soundtrack of our lives' has never sounded better. I don't care who you are; somewhere out there, is a Beatles song you know and love. It touches you, or makes you laugh, inspires you or drives you insane.
Enjoy the trailer, and lets get some comments going... Who is favorite of the four-some? What is your favorite Beatles song? Favorite moment in Beatles history? Are you going to see the movie?

I would have to say my favorite Beatle is Paul McCartney only for that fact that he is my mom's favorite so I think she planted that seed in my brain growing up. Favorite song? hmmm that is a hard one. Probably "Girl" the song at the beginning of the clip. James and I both love that song and it was something we discovered when we first started dating. It was so meant to be! :) I want to see the movie but I know that I am going to think it is weird. The music is enough sometimes right?
I love the Beatles, and I love so many of their songs, it's hard to pick a favorite. I have no desire to see the movie, though I loved Taymor's work in The Lion King. I figure I've got such limited time to see movies, I'd rather see movies I really want to see.
Favorite Beatle is without a doubt, George Harrison. In my opinion, he wrote the greatest Beatles songs. Not necessarily the most famous or even the most catchy, but the most perfectly written.
From "Something" to "Here Comes the Sun" to "Old Brown Shoe", I love his style of writing.
My all-time favorite, however, is "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I would love that song played at my funeral.
As for the movie, the trailers make it appear as a Baz Luhrmann film. And while I don't mind Baz's movies, I do need to prepare myself to see them because of the epileptic seizure I may get from the editing.
I saw a different preview for this when we saw the Bourne Ultimatum, and it focused more on the artistic/creative cinematography, which is the main draw for me! When I realized the main character is Jude, (my favorite song being Hey Jude) that sealed the deal. My first cassette of rock music was a Beatles compilation, and my first CD was Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I'm sure there's going to be some weirdness in the movie, but hello! their music is all about the funky whimsical...
BTW, I recently cut up my Beatles calendar from high school days into envelopes to send out Emily's 7 month pictures :)
okay, top favorite songs: hey jude, strawberry fields, lovely rita, something, penny lane, lady madonna.
what a fun post!
