the TERRIBLY two year old

Before you I proudly submit one cute, seemingly mellow/normal tow-headed toddler.
At times this interesting little micro-specimen-who-sometimes-resembles-his-larger-counterparts, can find himself in a tight situation (ie: I humbly present to you the picture displayed below, or sneaking raspberries from the fridge, or pulling barstools to the sink and soaking himself, OR running away from adult supervision in a crowded store).

Most of which usually end up involving tears or the occasional foot stamping. (Picture below is surprisingly deceptive as child is smiling and not crying).
However, if you care to observe this innocent child in his recent (aka - the last three days) natural environment (aka - at home when no one else sees) you might notice more than a mere foot stamp. Lately, the tears, the screams, the whines and meltdowns are becoming more frequent, more aggressive, and frankly more annoying. Parents of this "almost-two-digressing-back-to-two months" offspring are baffled and puzzled by said "foot stampers" illogical and oft times extremely irrational and unexpected behavior.

Please pass the prozac, chocolate and toaster oven. I'm headed to the bathroom.

Just as quickly, however, his sweetness and charm magically re-instate themselves, and win over any skeptics. Just ask for a kiss or a hug, and we, the aforementioned "skeptics" (aka - parents who are blinded-by-love) usually melt in his arms. Grandmothers of the world, your job has now become invaluably clear: HELP!!!

I still can not explain the 2 year old phenomenom. The instant our little angel turned 2...BOOM! Out came this boy (aka Lucifer)who did everything he knew he shouldn't. I swear every dya I said out loud...who are you and what did you do with my Ben? Everything was a fight......especially bedtime (aka: torture mommy time)! I am happy to say though I am starting to get my angel back. And it only took 8 months of HE double hockey sticks!

Good luck and keep the chocolate close.....

Yeah, I see bouts of terrible two's still even though she is four. Loved the comment about about prozac, chocolate and a toaster. I laughed out load on that one! Too funny! -Suzanne

I'd love to say it gets better, but at our house 2 is bad but 3 has been worse! I tell my hubby whoever said "terrible twos" gave, paid someone to take, or just plain got rid of their child before 3! Hopefully this won't be the case at your house. He is trully a darling little man!

I'd love to see this in action, then I could do some grandmotherly type interventions in person

Two-year-olds definitely take things to extremes, I've found! Shrieking/screaming/whining vs. giggling/singing/hugs&kisses. I think they balance out pretty well right now, but I'm worried about all these comments about three-year-olds!!!

LOL Oh, Meg . . .I think I can safely say that it will get better, but I've also found that as they speak more clearly, they get both more annoying (the whining, oh, the whining!) and much more endearing ("Mommy, you the best!"). So sorry that Peter has finally crossed the threshold into terrible two-dom, although you're lucky it's taken this long to get there. I'm not looking forward to my little firecracker reaching this stage. :D

I laughed so hard at this, my daughter was giving me funny looks. I'd like to say it gets better with age, but she is worse now then she was at 2 (she's 3). Maybe a boy will be different though cause she is just way more dramatic then before.

Anyways, it was really nice meeting you the other night. Thanks for coming to dinner with us.

This too shall pass - all too soon. Someday you will look back to these days of your sons youth and say to yourselves, "Where have the years gone". You will be dealing with so much more and you will wish yourselves back to these simple years, as annoying as they sometimes can be and you will want to hold him while he sleeps and kiss him (because that's the only time he holds still long enough for a kiss). :0) You are very normal parents. Make the most of these times(I think you are). Love ya lots - CZ & BZ
Check out our blog. I love this stuff now that I finally have caught on to it thanks to a lot of our kids and family.
