E-bay is seriously of the devil. The bidding wars. The stuff I tell myself I can't live without! Today I purchased this first edition Little Golden Book of "Peter Pan and the Pirates" for PK. I thought it might be cute to frame and hang up in the nursery (and occasionally take down to read). I absolutely LOVE children's books, so I thought I would do a blog to share some of my personal favorites.
I love the fairy tales. Some of my favorites are Hilary Knight's "Cinderella", Scott Gustafson's "Classic Fairy Tales" and "The Sleeping Beauty" retold and illustrated by Mercer Mayer (all of which feature some of the most beautiful illustrations I have EVER seen). Of course there are also the modern classics like "The Velveteen Rabbit," Dr. Seuss's "Oh The Places You'll Go" and "On Beyond Zebra." Another author/illustrator I love is Graeme Base who did "Animalia" and "The Eleventh Hour" which is a great mystery book for kids. As a girl I also enjoyed all the "Angelina Ballerina" books, although I'm not sure if Peter will be as into those as I was. Finally I should top off my list with a great find I discovered a few years ago at a book fair called, "The Tale of the Three Trees" which I love to share with my primary classes and still moves me to tears every time I read it. Books are so wonderful to have around the house, and to inspire the imagination of everyone both young and old. Please share some of your favorites with me!

My favorite Kids books were Thomas the Tank Engine, I still have the original editons that we read to Carter. I also liked some english books like the Famous Five, the Secret Seven and the Swallows and Amazon series. I will let you look these up on line but I think that you would like them.
James
I was told to clarify that "Swallows and Amazons" is one book by Arthur Ransome. The famous five is by Enid Blyton
I love the Golden Books..I remember those growing up. I have tons of kids books. I have inherited quite a few from Maddy, some that actually use to be mine and my sisters when we were little. I love getting more books! I usually try to get a book or 2 from the school book fair and I also love to order books from the book orders from school. I am hoping that my love of reading will rub off onto my kids!!
Some of my favorite books as a child were The Velvetine Rabbit, The Polar Express, James and the Giant Peach, and one that I love to read to Carter now is I'll Love you Forever I think its called? the one about the mother that rocks her son to sleep every night and then by the end the son is rocking the mother and goes home to his own baby...tender!
I promise to refrain from corrupting little PK with any Lovecraft -- for a few more years anyway! ;o)
* Everything Seuss.
