guilty pleasures

Now that the word is out that I like romance novels and Star Trek I may as well come clean about the rest of my guilty pleasures...what do I have to lose? This year I'm all about doing the things that make me happy, so here are some treats I will share with you in all their graphic details. My list of guilty pleasures! (P.S. The definition of a guilty pleasure is something that you love or enjoy, but are possibly a little embarrassed to be sharing.)

3. MySpace
. Quite possibly the biggest time-waster of all-time! It's the best place for finding old friends, making new ones, posting pictures, bulletins and changing people around in your "top 8". It is quite literally the ultimate narcissistic indulgence! Wars are waged, alliances are threatened and anything can happen when you log in everyday. I find myself waking up in the morning and saying, "I wonder if anyone left me a comment today?" I also find myself browsing through the millions of other users, only to look up at the clock and realize that half of the day has passed and I still haven't made it to the shower. To know what I'm talking about you truly need to be a member of the drama that IS MySpace. Why do I torture myself... WHY?!

2. Musicals
. Yup, I'm a sucker for the lavish productions, scintillating romances and rousing musical numbers. Whether it's new favorites like Rent, Chicago and Moulin Rouge; or old classics like My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Camelot and The King and I, musicals will always have a soft spot in my heart! Of course I can't leave out the big Broadway productions that have yet to be made into feature length films, such as: Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and Wicked. There is a radio station (Kosy 106.5) that does, "Showtune Saturday Night" every Saturday evening from 8-12 PM. They always play a great variety of showtunes, and you can call in to request your favorites. I think my all-time favorite musical will always be Les Miserables which my mom took me to see for my birthday many years ago at the Capitol Theater. However, The Phantom of the Opera and The Sound of Music are very close seconds. Whenever I hear a song I recognize from a musical my first instinct is to grab a microphone and do a little karaoke!

1. The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman. Honestly, I have never seen the show until this season. I'm still not sure why I began tuning in, in the first place? I usually balk at reality shows, especially ones that feature needy yet beautiful women throwing themselves at brainless yet buff men, all for the sake of ratings and drama. Also the fact that the producers keep playing an awful elevator version of, "Up Where We Belong" is enough to make anyone gag. Something about Andy (the bachelor) seems somewhat genuine though, and ever since C.T. and Diem (ask Heather who they are) I am intrigued by the idea of reality romances. I must admit however, that the cat fights and the backstabbing make for some gleefully compelling television. So far I think the strong contenders for winning Andy are: Tessa, Danielle and Bevin. With gossiping girls getting axed every other week, I can't wait to see who he will give a rose to next!

The Bachelor, REALLY?! I never thought I would hear of you watching that show of all reality shows! It is like the smut of all smut! haha but I guess you do read romance novels! :)I have watched a few seasons of this ridiculous show myself and it is addicting. I vowed last season that I would never watch it again because all the girls that should win don't and they end up breaking up right after the show anyways.

Thanks for sharing your guilty pleasures. I also love musicals (my current favorite is The Scarlet Pimpernel).

As for the bachelor, I've never seen it. I saw a season or two of The Apprentice, Beauty and the Geek, Joe Millionaire, and Joe Schmo (where only one contestant didn't know the show was a fake--that was an interesting twist). But now the only "reality" I watch is things like Mythbusters, Hazard Pay, Man vs. Wild, and Dirty Jobs. Reality TV in general frustrates me, partly because so many of the contestants seem to reek of desperation to be noticed and be in the spotlight.
