drum roll please...

This post is for all of my dear friends and family who have been worried about me, and my health problems these last few months...

First, the good news. My biopsy results came in last week, and I am officially cancer free! Yeah! Thank you to everyone for your prayers, fasts, comments, e-mails and phone calls. They meant more to me than you could ever know. I feel so blessed to have so many people in my life who love and care for me!

I have been meaning to post information for some time, but I wanted to have all my doctor visits under my belt before doing so. After being fed-up with my current OBGYN, I decided to seek a second opinion, and I am so glad that I did! I met with Dr. Lamoreaux last week (at the recommendation of a friend), and we had an hour-long consultation about my past problems (Poly-Cystic Ovarian Disease) and solutions and options for how to treat the erratic bleeding. He was very helpful, and listened to all of my concerns. We decided that the best thing to do was meet with my endocrinologist again before we decided to make any concrete plans.

Tuesday I went up to LDS Hospital to meet with Dr. Benowitz (my endocrinologist) and get his take on the situation. He explained that because my body sometimes skips periods, the blood can store up in my endometrium for a long time. When I do finally get a period, the endometrium sloughs off blood and tissues, but because there is so much it will do it sporadically, and for long periods of time. The endometrium never fully releases all the blood completely, thus dragging out my bleeding for months at a time. He explained that this was very normal for someone with my medical history, and the best thing to do is take a hormone that will release the rest of the blood. Which explains why my endometrium looked "abnormal" in my ultra-sound. It was overly-large due to the copious amounts of blood my body was retaining.

Of course all of this is related to being overweight and having high blood sugar, so he admonished me to get my butt in gear and get healthy. I told him that I have already lost 20 pounds since December (yay!), that I had completely cut-out soda this year (it's been 38 days since my last carbonated beverage), and I am working out a couple of nights a week at the Legacy Center. Ideally I need to lose about 50 more pounds to be closer to a healthier weight, and start getting regular periods. I am now on a regimine of iron supplements (for the blood loss), Metformin (high blood sugar), and Progesterone (to induce bleeding). This is all pretty boring to those of you reading this, but I wanted to make sure I gave a full account of everything going on. I will meet again with Dr. Benowitz in April to track my progress, and in the meantime I promise to update everyone should any new developments arise.

Thank you again for all your support! Love, Meg.

Oh momma I am so happy that it wasn't cancer. You really had me worried!

When your one friend asked why I wanted to lose weight, because I looked great the way I was. The anwser that is the most important that I have been trying to say all a long, is to be healthy. And my weight right now is not healthy. I don't have diabetes or high blood pressure. But I don't want to wait until I do. That's why I was so motivated to lose it in the past. I had some health scares that I knew could be prevented with prevention. I am a HUGE fan of health prevention. Yah for getting healthy!!! I am SO proud of you. The healthy blog is back up and running....as soon as I can remember my password for it. ;)Let's do this together!

I was thankful to have your update...your mom filled me in yesterday, but it still feels better somehow to get it from the source. I've been dieting my whole life...call me when you need an idea for a skinny treat.

Yeah! We are so grateful you are OK!! I think " getting healthy " is a good goal for all of us.

Your soo smart!
I can't believe your memory! I hear something from the doctor, and come home to tell someone, and it's ummm, something to do with bleeding and it being stored??? Etc, etc..

Yay, Meg!! I'm so excited for you. (Nate wants to know what the bad news is.) I'm so happy that it is treatable and that your progress is so huge (I should only be so lucky). I'm so relieved!!

Leah: Thanks for the encouragement. I knew there was a reason I called you first!

Natalie: Thank you for your prayers and concern. It meant so much to me. You are my guardian angel!

Ann: Thanks for the concern and compliments. You learn to pay close attention when it feels like a life or death situation!

Marie: You can tell Nate the bad news is bleeding for two months straight. Otherwise, I am very happy to be cancer free, and appreciate all the worry.

Melanie: Thanks for the encouragement. I am hoping to keep shedding pounds, although I have noticed I've plateaued a little this week.

Katie: Thanks again for your e-mail and for just being you. I love getting your comments and opinions.

Sheron & Quinn: Thank heavens it wasn't cancer! Although if it had been, I'm sure I could have gotten all the information and support I needed from you guys. I'm glad Sheron has made a full recovery. P.S. I didn't realize that Lamoreaux was your Dr. until I came home and Alli informed me that he had delivered babies for you and Teresa. Nice!
