2008 Beijing Summer Olympics

Is it just me, or have the Olympics been really amazing this year?

Between the grandeur and pomp of the breathtaking opening ceremonies, to the incredible talent that each athlete and country bring to the television every night, I am thoroughly enjoying the 2008 summer games. I love that for a few days every 2 years, the entire world comes together in peace and mutual respect to watch these incredible Olympians compete. And as much as I love cheering for the good old U.S. of A., I can't help but be swept up in the general feeling of respect and admiration for
all the competitors. Basically, I like to cheer for anyone who is good! Swimming has always been my favorite of the sporting events (even above the more popular sports such as gymnastics). Is Michael Phelps the most incredible athlete you have ever seen?! Honestly. Having been on several swim teams during my teenage years, I can truly appreciate the speed, strength, endurance and heart he brings to every single heat. I love watching him swim! He is graceful and powerful in the water, and has such a charismatic personality during interviews. The relay that Phelps and other teammates participated in, will probably go down as one of the greatest moments in the 2008 games (pictured above), and I was so thrilled to be able to watch team U.S.A.'s magnificent achievement.

What event are you enjoying the most?

I agree with you that I do love the spirit of the Olympics. I was just saying to a friend that I missed having the Olympics here because there was such a different feeling in the air and people were so nice to each other when we held the games. Sadly to say, I don't get to see any of the events this time. Every time I go to the internet to get caught up, I get distracted by some type of scandal article. So as you are enjoying the Olympics, go a little more crazy wild than normal. You can blame the extra excitment for acting in my behalf!

PS So jealous you were a swimmer! That is so hard to do!

I love the beach v-ball too, they make it look so easy for two people to cover the whole court.

I was thinking during the Women's Gymnastics Individual All Arounds, How often does the entire world sit down and watch the same thing? The Olympics really is about the only time! Such a wonderful thing. I agree that I'm loving the Swimming. Of course, living in England I'm hearing different stuff from you lot, and have some rather split loyalties. If it comes to a showdown between an American and a Brit . . . I guess I'll go with the American. Most of the time. But I was cheering so hard for Rebecca Adlington today! First British woman to win 2 swimming golds in one Olympics since 1908! I was feeling very proud of her, and I'm not English! But, I have to say, I'm really enjoying the rowing and the judo events, which get glossed over in the States.

I really enjoyed watching Michael Phelps in all his events--talent, anyone? But I've also enjoyed watching the gymnasts, especially Nastia Liukin on the balance beam and the floor exercise. But I also really enjoyed watching the men's 100m race. I couldn't believe that Bolt was so fast that he could actually slow down in the last 20 meters and still win!

I love the Olympics! Btw, Meg, I had a lot of fun at the mall today. Thanks!

I cried during the women's all around gymnastics medal ceremony. I screamed at the ball to miss when US Redeem team was playing Spain in basketball. I was sad for Darren Torres as she swam and missed gold by 1 100th of a second. And I have just been full of anxiety and shock as Michael Phelps has conquered the pool. I watched this great little special on Phelps. It was explaining how he is completely built to be a swimmer. He is a machine not a man! These olympics have brought all the emotions I love in sports. I hope the US Basketball team makes it to the end and gets gold!

I love it all, it is so addicting. I would seriously be in front of the TV 24-7 if I wasn't working and had no other things in my life.
